- 雑誌『庭』第265号は、創刊50周年を迎えての大特集『日本の庭の現在地』。その中で、庭師のレジェンド河西力さん（河西庭苑）と、河西さんの影響を大きく受けたと話す熊谷昌樹さん（作庭衆 熊谷佳樹園）に対談していただいた。特に河西さんが若い頃にどのような考え方を持っていたのか、そしてどのような影響を受けて河西さんの作風が生まれていったのかについて話していただいた。AIについての話などが出る中で、最終的な対談のテーマになったのは、「遊び」。「これは成立するのか」を繰り返して作庭してきた河西さんの考え方が分かる対談原稿に仕上がった。

- Issue No. 265 of NIWA marks the magazine's 50th anniversary with a major feature, "The Current Landscape of Japanese Gardens." For it, I brought together Tsutomu Kasai of Kasai Teien — a legend among Japanese gardeners — and Masaki Kumagai of Sakuteishu Kumagai Kajuen, who says Kasai's work shaped his own. We talked in particular about how Kasai thought in his younger years, and about the influences out of which his style grew. The conversation ranged as far as AI, but what it finally settled on was play. Kasai has made gardens by asking himself, over and over, "does this hold together?" — and the piece is written to bring that way of thinking into view.
