- 雑誌『庭』第259号の連載「庭道具考（第24回）」の取材執筆記事。新潟県三条市の「日野浦刃物工房」の四代目・日野浦睦氏をインタビュー。青紙鋼や白紙鋼などを用いたハイクラスの包丁を製造する同工房だが、使用されているのは日本の刃物産業を支えてきた炭素工具鋼（SK材）。丁寧に鍛造した後には、本来は油焼き入れが常識とされる素材にあえて高度な技術を要する「水焼き入れ」を施している。切れ味と粘りを極限まで両立させた「竹割鉈（8寸）」に込められた工夫とは。伝統の技術を継承しながら、現代の使い手のニーズに合わせて進化を続ける若き鍛冶職人のモノづくりの思想を紐解く。

- An interview and feature article for the serialized column Reflections on Landscaping Tools Issue 24 in NIWA Magazine Issue 259. Interviewed Mutsumi Hinoura the fourth generation blacksmith of Hinoura Hamono Kobo in Sanjo Niigata. While the workshop is known for producing high end knives using premium steels like Aogami and Shirogami, this tool utilizes standard carbon steel SK-4 steel which has long supported Japans cutlery industry. After meticulous forging they apply water quenching a highly demanding technique to a material that is conventionally oil quenched. This report explores the ingenuity behind the 8 sun bamboo machete that perfectly balances sharpness and durability, unfolding the manufacturing philosophy of a young blacksmith who preserves traditional skills while evolving them to meet the needs of modern users.
