Tetsufuku（鐡福）は、2012年7月にオープンした、日本の鍛冶屋さんや道具職人さんが手作りした道具と刃物に特化した越境ECプラットフォームです。店長は、造園道具と庭のジャーナリストの私、浦田浩志です。Tetsufukuは単に製品を販売するだけではなく、2009年から開始した鍛冶屋さんの取材に基づく一次情報を背景に、世界のプロフェッショナル・愛好者たちと日本の鍛冶屋さんをつなぐ存在を目指して立ち上げました。幸いなことに、鍛冶屋さんとお客様に恵まれ、今もTetsufukuの事業は拡大し続けています。

Tetsufuku was launched in July 2012 as a cross-border e-commerce platform specializing in hand-forged tools and cutlery made by Japanese blacksmiths and artisans. I am Hiroshi Urata, the manager of the site and a journalist specializing in landscape gardening tools and gardens. Tetsufuku was established not merely to sell products, but to connect blacksmiths in Japan with professionals and enthusiasts worldwide, backed by primary information gathered through my personal interviews with artisans since 2009. Fortunately, blessed with wonderful blacksmiths and customers, Tetsufuku’s business continues to expand today.

Tetsufukuのコンセプト -Tetsufuku’s Concept-

• 名人の一言が開店のきっかけ

  2011年、雑誌『庭』の取材で、最後の手斧（ちょうな）鍛冶と言われた故・高木順一さんに会いました。私は「最後の手斧鍛治として、どのようなことを考えておられますか？」と質問しました。高木さんは竹中大工道具博物館の展示品を復元する仕事の携わったそうです。そこで、江戸時代の手斧を復元した経験から、「原型を留めた物と、熱意を持つ人が出会えば、道具は復元できる。私が可能な限り手斧を作って残せば、いつかそれは蘇ると考えています」と笑顔で答えてくれました。高木さんは、その言葉通り、お亡くなりになる前まで手斧を作り続けたそうです。私は高木さんの言葉に希望をもらいました。「ならば、私はできるだけ多くの鍛冶屋を取材して言葉を残し、物を残そう」と考えたのです。Tetsufukuは、私なりの高木さんへの回答なのです。

  A Master’s Words Inspired the Launch
  In 2011, while conducting an interview for the garden magazine Niwa, I met the late Junichi Takagi, who was renowned as the last chona (adze) blacksmith. I asked him, “As the last chona blacksmith, what are your thoughts on this?” Mr. Takagi had been involved in the restoration of historical tools exhibited at the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum. Drawing from his experience of restoring a 300-year-old adze, he answered with a smile: “As long as an artifact that retains its original form meets someone with passion, the tool can be restored. I believe that if I forge and leave behind as many adzes as possible, they will one day be revived.” True to his words, Mr. Takagi reportedly continued to make adzes until just before his passing. His words filled me with hope. I thought to myself, “If that is the case, then I will interview as many blacksmiths as possible to preserve their words and safeguard their creations.” Tetsufuku is my personal response to Mr. Takagi’s legacy.

• 価値の提示と選択の自由のある店を

  Tetsufukuを立ち上げる際、最も大切にしたのは「手作りの鍛造品を売ること」でした。工場生産品にも優れた商品はありますが、鍛冶屋さんの場合は作り手の顔が見えます。何時間も話を聞いた経験があるからこそ、「あの人にがんばってほしい」という気持ちが、自然と芽生えていました。当初は、手作りの道具の素晴らしさをそのまま伝えたいという一心でしたが、ある時から「使う人たちの暮らし」に思いを馳せるようになりました。お客様の国やその土地にも、日本と同様に文化が存在しています。「Tetsufukuが取り扱う性能に優れた道具は、本当にお客様の土地や文化に適合するのだろうか？」と必ず問いかけるとともに広告的な表現を使わず、「お客様の価値観や判断に委ねる」「お互いの文化に理解とリスペクトを持つ」というスタンスで運営をしています。

  Providing Value and Freedom of Choice
  When launching Tetsufuku, what I valued above all else was “selling handcrafted forged products.” While mass-produced factory goods can be excellent, blacksmiths offer a human connection—you can see the face of the maker. Because I had spent hours listening to their stories first-hand, a natural desire to support them sprouted within me: “I want to cheer them on.” Initially, my sole focus was simply conveying the sheer excellence of these handcrafted tools. Over time, however, I began to envision and reflect upon the lives of the people who actually use them. Just like in Japan, unique cultures exist in our customers’ home countries and local regions. I always ask myself, “Do these tools from Tetsufuku truly fit our customers’ local environments and cultures?” Guided by this question, we avoid promotional or advertising-style language. Instead, our business philosophy is to “leave the decision and value judgment to the customers” and to “maintain deep understanding and respect for each other’s cultures.”

  Recommended Products to Try
  In this section, speaking both as the store manager of Tetsufuku and as journalist and writer Hiroshi Urata, I would like to recommend some of our products based purely on my personal passion and attachment.
